On the island of Oahu, Hawaii near Pearl Harbor a few acres of watercress lay along the roadway named for King Kamehameha. Most days a line of harvesters dressed in an array of hats and aprons, hand pick the watercress. In this painting the warm colors of harvester’s hat contrast with the blues and greens of his clothing and the Sumida Farms’ cash crop.
