Bangus are the national fish of the Philippines. This interpretation of a fish vendor’s offerings on the island of Basilan offers a lot of color and visual activity. It was a hot day and these fish weren’t moving but the blue vs. orange and light vs. dark in the painting give the sense that there is a good bit of life left in the party. In painting as in jazz - improvisation can sometimes make all the difference.
