The Badjao people of the southern Philippine islands of Mindanao are often referred to as ‘water gypsies.’ They live off the sea and construct houses in it near the island shorelines. Their simple structures can often be colorful representatives of daily Badjao life. This bright white house contrasts sharply with the dark jungle and with the chic lifestyles found up north in Manila.
